Makeup Revolution x British Beauty Blogger Fortune Favours The Brave Review

The Fortune Favours The Brave Palette is by no means a new release, in fact I’ve had this palette in my collection for the last 6 months, possibly even longer, but non the less I have decided to review it because it’s something that I use a lot and something that I enjoy using.

The palette is a collaboration between Makeup Revolution and British Beauty Blogger. Makeup Revolution is a very popular affordable brand who are becoming increasing known for their dupes of well loved high end products. In the UK you can find there counters in Superdrug stores, you can buy their products on the Superdrug website or you can buy direct from the www.tambeauty.com website.

Let’s get back to the palette in question. Now whilst MUR are well known for their dupes as I said before, this is not a dupe for anything already released.

I love the front design of the palette. It’s so sleek and stylish and it’s really easy to find in my acrylic drawers because even though I have a lot of Eyeshadow Palettes I don’t have anything else that’s gold in my collection.

Taking a look inside the colours are so pretty! There’s a mix of Matte and Shimmer shades and in my opinion they are all very wearable.

Over the past few months I have created some beautiful nude eye makeup looks with this palette. My favourite shades have to be the pink and nude shimmer shades. One thing I do find with these eyeshadows is a difference in pigmentation between the mattes and the shimmers. The matte shades swatch very patchy and they take at least two finger swipes to get any colour payoff on my arm, they are also quite powdery however saying that they are still very useable and do build up nicely if you are willing to put the effort in. The shimmer shades on the other hand are gorgeously buttery and creamy and they are super pigmented. For me, it’s worth having this palette just for the shimmer shades alone. I’ve done some swatches below and I think it’s easy to see what I mean in the difference between the mattes and the shimmers.

So what is my honest opinion on this palette? I think it’s definitely worth having in your makeup collection, especially when you consider that it is only £9.99. It’s full of very wearable shades that you will be able to create lots of beautiful looks with. Aside from the few lighter matte shades that are lacking in pigmentation compared to the rest, the colour payoff is great, especially for a drugstore product. If you can get hold of this palette then I definitely recommend you give it a try.

Do you have the Fortune Favours The Brave Palette? What do you think of it?

February 2017 Empties

This months Product Empties features quite a lot of makeup and beauty items because I didn't do a January Empties as last month was so busy, so I saved them all up and have put them all in February's post. I hope you've got a brew and a snack – your going to need it!

Here's the products that I've used up over the last 2 months –

Unani Il-luminate Milk Cleanser

This Cleanser was from my January Glossybox and I've absolutely loved using it, it's so creamy (as you'd expect from a milk cleanser!). It removed my makeup with ease – even my eye makeup, leaving my skin feeling clean, smooth and fresh. Sometimes I find cleansers can be quite drying to my skin but that's not that case with this one. Disappointingly though I have been looking to purchase another one of these and I can't find a UK website to buy one from although on the Glossybox website it does tell me this would retail for £13.60.

Bourjois 123 Perfect Foundation

This Foundation has to be one of my all time favourite drugstore Foundations. I had this in the shade Vanilla Clair, although in all honestly I could probably have done with going one shade darker – I don't know why but for some reason I went through a faze of thinking I was paler than I am!! However that being said it was easy enough to darken it up with some bronzer. This is a light/medium Foundation but it is easily buildable if you like something heavier. It's non greasy, doesn't oxidise and it applies evenly. I buy mine from Superdrug and it retails at £10.99.

Decleor Hydra Floral BB Cream

My mum actually gave this to me about a year ago from out of a QVC TSV she bought. The thing I love the most about this is the frangrance, it's literally like summer in a bottle! It's so floral and pretty, I just love putting it on. This is a BB cream so your not going to get a super heavy coverage like you would from a foundation, but this is just perfect for a hot day when your looking to brighten up your skin but you don't want to feel like you've got a full face of makeup on. You can purchase this from the Look Fantastic website and it is £22.05 (what a funny price! Why the 5p? Are they sending it in a carrier bag?!).

Bee Good Firm And Plump Moisturiser

Now I know this post is supposed to be for products that I have used up this month but I do have a couple of things that I just don't want to use anymore, and this is one of them. Unfortunately this is just not for me, mainly because of the overpowering Lemon scent. I just can't bare it! It's too strong and I always end up washing it off! For that reason this is going in the bin. The Bee Good Firm And Plump Moisturiser can be purchased from the Bee Good website and it is £9 for 15ml.

Caudalie Mosturising Sorbet

I'm not going to say much about this one because I have reviewed it before. I have literally got about 5 or 6 of these little tubes because they've been in various beauty boxes over the past few months. This is a tube that I had sitting on my bookcase and I used it everytime I couldn't be bothered to walk upstairs and get my main moisturiser lol! I quite like it, it does the job! The full size of this will cost you £23 from the Naturisimo website.

Makeup Forever Excessive Lash Mascara

This is another one that is not an actual Empty, it's just something that I don't rate. I found this just went clumpy on me. No matter how I applied it, it just clumped up. Luckily this was just a sample sized Mascara that I got from Love Me Beauty before I unsubscribed. The Makeup Forever Excessive Lash Mascara retails at £19 from Debenhams.

Molton Brown Dewy Lily Of The Valley And Star Anise Bath And Shower Gel

This was a sample that I got in my Tili Box and I have absolutely loved it. It smells so gorgeous! It lathers up beautifully. There's not much else to say about this except it's just lovely to use. The full size is available from the John Lewis website for £18. It's a bit of an indulgence but totally worth it!

Sephora Lotus Sleeping Mask

A lovely friend brought me this back from New York last year. Although it's quite a small little pot it actually goes a long way and I got 4 full face uses out of this. I applied this once a week after my night time cleanse and it was such a treat for my skin. In the morning when I woke up my skin was so soft and plump and it felt really hydrated. This was from Sephora and a quick look on the website tells me it was $4, which is around £3.25.

Milani Easy Brow Tinted Fiber Gel

In a nutshell I hated this. I just did nothing, I'm not even convinced I could ever get any out of the tube. I purchased this from Beauty Bay because I absolutely love all the other Milani products I have in my collection and I was expecting the same level of quality from this but sadly that wasn't the case. So in the bin this goes! This is on the Beauty Bay website for £9 but honestly save your money – it's absolute rubbish!

N.4 Restore and Repair Oil

N.4 Restore and Repair Oil is basically a conditioning oil that you apply to your hair after you have washed and towel dried it. It is VERY concentrated so you only need to use the tiniest amount. I found that this made my hair quite greasy so I used it as an overnight treatment and washed my hair in the morning. Using it like that made this product work for me, I found my hair was softer, smoother and it wasn't as fly away as it normally would be. This retails at £18.60 for 60ml and you can find it on Birchbox.com.

La Roche-Posay Redermic R Eyes

This was a sample sachet that I got from the Feel Unique Pick n Mix service. I got about 5 uses out of this altogether but to be honest I wasn't that impressed – I found it really greasy. I'm glad I got a sample before I thought about purchasing the full size product. If you want to buy the full size product it will cost you £20.80 from the Escentual website.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz

I bought this because I already use the Dipbrow Pomade and I love it, so I thought that for when I don't have as much time to do my makeup I would try this. Sadly it just doesn't live up to the Pomade. I got it in the shade Blonde and I just couldn't get any payoff from it at all. I was pressing on it so hard I was worried I was going to snap it! £15.50 most definitely not well spent! I'll be sticking to my Dipbrow Pomade.

So that's it! Those are the products that I used up (or threw away!) in the months of January and February 2017. What have you been using?

Beauty Pie Subscription Service

‘Beauty Pie? what’s that ?!’ I hear you say. Well I’m going to tell you! It’s a relatively new beauty subscription service….but with a difference. As you know, lately I have been very underwhelmed with my beauty box subscriptions, I had cancelled a few and was on the look out for something new to replace them. That’s when I discovered Beauty Pie. Now I’ll be honest, it took me a while to get my head around the concept because it is a bit different than your standard beauty box subscription. Basically you pay £10 a month (with a minimum of 3 months subscription) for the opportunity to be able to shop the Beauty Pie website at cost price. For your £10, each month they give you the opportunity to buy up to £100 worth of products for just the factory price it costs them to make it. Plus, if one month you don’t want to buy anything that £100 will roll over to next month and then you will be able to buy £200 worth of products at cost price the next month. Also, as an added bonus, for the first month they give you an extra £50 on top of the £100 just in case you want to go a bit crazy!

So what did I get with my first months allowance of £150 and how much did it cost me……

First up I chose the Great Skin Foundation, the price to buy this without a Beauty Pie subscription (which you can do if you want to!) is £30, but with a subscription you pay £5.06. Next I chose the One Powder Wonder Pressed Powder. On the website this looked amazing and I was really excited to get this and have a look at it in real life and I have to say I was not disappointed, it is just so pretty. The price of the One Powder Wonder is £26 but with a subscription you pay £3.68. The next thing I chose was the Quantum Bronzer and if I thought the Powder was pretty I should have seen this first! It is such a pretty shade and in the pan it is gradient from a deeper shade to a lighter shade, it is just absolutely stunning. The Quantum Bronzer is £26 without a subscription or £3 with one. After the Bronzer and the Powder had wowed me I went straight to the Blushers and I was eager to chose one to try. I couldn’t decide so I ended up choosing 2 of the Smart Powder Blushes at £2.51 each or £18 without a subscription. Lastly I chose 2 of the Moisture Lock Wondergel Lip Liners (mainly to use up the last of my first months £150 allowance) and I chose the shades Foxy and Love Nest, these are £15 each without a subscription or £1.47 each with one. Altogether including shipping my order total (not including the £10 original subscription price) was £27.63 which in my opinion is not bad for 7 items.

So what did I think of the items once I had received them? Well the first thing I noticed was the packaging. Beauty Pie themselves say that the items are in ‘no frills’ packaging and that you might notice that products feel a lot lighter than you may usually expect. That is because they are trying to keep the cost price of the items down. Now because of that I did not have high expections for the packaging, in fact I was more than prepared to decant the foundation into a better bottle and depot the powder products into my Z Palette, however to my surprise when they arrived I need not have worried. The foundation was in a good quality glass bottle with a pump – I was expecting a plastic bottle – and the compact products, whilst yes they were lighter slightly, they are in perfectly functioning packing that I am confident will fair well in the bottom of my makeup bag. Also something that I wasn’t expecting was for each item to have its own individual box – you don’t get that from a lot of other brands and you certainly pay a lot more! In fact I felt like Beauty Pie were selling themselves short by saying that and so I messaged them on Facebook and told them exactly that!

With regards to the quality of the makeup itself I am more than happy, in particular with the Quantum Bronzer (it is absolutely beautiful and if you do decide to join the service you MUST get it! I insist!). The products are easy to use, very pretty and have great pigmentation. They are also great sizes, I mean the Bronzer is HUGE!

At the time when I ordered there wasn’t that many products to choose from however they have already added more and they say they will be doing so throughout that year.

I have high hopes for this subscription service and I look forward to the new items that they launch. I hope it continues to the same standard because I can see Beauty Pie becoming something really big.

(Just a quick edit to add that this is NOT a sponsored post – I chose and paid for all items I recieved and this is my genuine opinion on the Beauty Pie Subscription Service)

Birchbox February 2017

I was super excited from the start this month to receive my February Birchbox because I knew that there was a full sized Spectrum Eyeshadow brush in this months box and also because we got the chance to choose the colour of our boxes as well. I chose this pretty green and white leaf design because I liked it the best, the other option was a blue background with pink leaves.

In my Birchbox this month I received a Keeome Hydration Therapy Mask, a Pop Beauty Eyeshadow Trio, the Brighten Up Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator from Vasanti, a leave in conditioner spray from Beaver and of course the full sized Spectrum Eyeshadow brush.

Overall I am quite happy with this months box and I will definitely give everything a try.
